Key Stages

Our charges set out below will be calculated mainly by reference to the time spent by the solicitor and other staff in respect of any work which they do on your behalf.
The fees set out below cover all of the work in relation to the following key stages of the claim:

Taking your initial instructions

Reviewing the papers and advising you on merits and likely result/ compensation

Entering into pre-claim conciliation (where mandatory) to consider whether a settlement can be reached

Preparing claim or response

Reviewing and advising on claim or response from other party

Exploring settlement and negotiating settlement throughout the process

Preparing or considering a schedule of loss

Preparing for and either attending ourselves or arranging representation at a Preliminary Hearing

Exchanging documents with the other party and agreeing a bundle of documents
-
Taking witness statements, drafting statements

Preparing bundle of documents

Reviewing and advising on the other party’s witness statements
-
Agreeing a list of issues and a chronology

Preparation and attendance at Final Hearing including liaising with counsel where appointed.
Fees
The current hourly rate is £260 plus VAT. VAT is charged at 20%.

For guidance we have outlined our fees where we are acting for either employer or employee in dismissal claims.

Simple cases £2,000-£5,500. These figures are exclusive of VAT which is charged at 20%.
Simple cases include those which are listed for a one day hearing.

Medium complexity cases £5,500-£15,000. These figures are exclusive of VAT which is charged at 20%.
Medium complexity cases include those which are listed for hearings exceeding 1 day but no more than 5 days.

High complexity cases £15,000-£30,000. These figures are exclusive of VAT which is charged at 20%.
High complexity cases include those which are listed for hearings exceeding 5 days. They may also include matters where there are a number of witnesses and documents, allegations of discrimination and whistleblowing.

The above figures exclude disbursements.

Disbursements
​
Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties such as court fees. The disbursements payable will be the cost to instruct counsel to attend your tribunal. The cost will vary dependent on the experience of the barrister. During the matter, we will liaise with Chambers to obtain cost estimates and put these to you to consider and will appoint the party based on your instructions. As a general guidance Barrister fees are estimated to be between £1000-£6000 per day dependent on experience. These figures exclude VAT and VAT will be charged at 20%.

Timescales
​
The timescales to reach a resolution are largely dependent on the complexity of your case and the stage at which the matter is concluded. For example if a early settlement is reached in the preliminary stages then the case could be concluded within 4-16 weeks however if your case proceeds to final hearing it is likely to take up to 12 months. ​
